Residential design — Santa Cruz County
Custom residential design on coastal, hillside, and in-town lots throughout Santa Cruz County.
Expansions and reconfigurations of existing homes, designed to work with the original house rather than against it.
Accessory dwelling units suited to the lot, the neighborhood, and current county rules.
Expert guidance on feasibility, site potential, and project direction before formal design begins.
Detailed construction drawings, plans, and elevations ready for permitting and building.
Navigating Santa Cruz County approvals, planning department requirements, and building permits.
Ongoing availability to contractors and clients through construction, answering questions and resolving field issues as they arise.
Start where you are. First meeting on site, over Zoom, or by phone — whatever works for your schedule and location.
Design at your pace. Some projects settle quickly. Others take many rounds of sketches and revisions. You review and direct every iteration.
Permits and approvals. Construction documents are developed and shepherded through Santa Cruz County permitting.
Support through completion. Peter stays involved — on site or remote — answering questions and resolving issues until the project is finished.
Direct access. Peter is the only person on your project. Calls return the same day. Site visits are with him.
Local knowledge of the process. After five decades working in Santa Cruz County, Peter knows the planning staff, the engineers, and the contractors. He is also occasionally brought in on projects that have become stuck in the permitting process, and is often able to move them forward.
Time and patience. Building is stressful. Peter's clients describe the experience as unhurried and clear — the result of patience, honest answers, and having seen most situations before.
Peter Guiley has worked in Santa Cruz County construction and residential design for over fifty years. He began as a contractor in Aptos, then spent the next phase of his career working alongside his uncle, the late Robert Longacre — a well-known local builder and designer — until Longacre's passing in 2000. Peter has practiced independently ever since.
He works directly with every client, from first site visit through permit approval and construction. There is no junior staff. The person you meet is the person who draws your plans.
